Freedom Vs. Equality

This Week the Supreme Court in a 5 to 4 decision chose freedom over equality.  Democracy procedurally is often based upon the will of the majority but substantively democracy is measured by the rights of the minority.  In this latest decision about the limit on the aggregate individuals' campaign contributions, the minority, the rich, will be given the liberty to have their voice heard more forcefully than ever before even though this might be at the expense of the majority--the poor.

This decision boils down to the question of how much liberty are we willing to sacrifice to have a more egalitarian society in other words should we give up some of our liberties to preserve equality?
